Taisei Marukawa Naturalisation Fast-Tracked: Ready for Indonesia at the 2027 Asian Cup?

A Standard Naturalisation Route

Unlike players with Indonesian heritage, Marukawa is going through a standard naturalisation process. He qualifies because he has lived in Indonesia for five years since 2021.

Noor Korompot, special staff to Indonesia's Minister of Law, said the ministry is assisting with the process. The player's documents are reported to be complete, so only the final stage remains.

Taisei Marukawa Naturalisation and the 2027 Asian Cup

Indonesia head coach John Herdman has already mentioned Marukawa by name. If the Taisei Marukawa naturalisation is completed and his Indonesian passport is issued before the new year, he has a real chance of playing at the 2027 Asian Cup.

He could be an important addition after Indonesia won the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 in early October. The Garuda squad is now aiming higher at Asian level. Official squad news is usually announced on the PSSI website.

Taisei Marukawa at a Glance

The 29-year-old is known for his pace, creativity and ability to dribble past opponents. He can also play in three attacking positions, which will make competition for places in the Garuda squad even tougher.

Analysts say Indonesia need an attacking midfielder who can carry the ball, and Marukawa has shown exactly that during his time in Liga 1. He has said it is his dream to wear the red and white shirt and repay the support of Indonesian fans.
