Indonesia's FIFA Matchday November 2026 Plans in Doubt as PSSI Lines Up Alternatives

Player Safety Comes First

PSSI chairman Erick Thohir said he was concerned about developments in the Middle East. He stressed that the safety of players and officials is the top priority in every decision.

PSSI is now preparing alternative opponents. The aim is to keep preparations for the 2027 Asian Cup on track, even if the venues and opponents for the friendlies have to change. The federation remains committed to playing two international matches during the November break.

Friendlies on the official FIFA calendar matter because the results count towards FIFA ranking points. Indonesia climbed the rankings after winning the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.

No Home Games at GBK

The Garuda squad will not be able to play at home during this international break. Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK) is undergoing major maintenance, so both matches are still planned as away games.

Injury News Ahead of FIFA Matchday November 2026

There is bad news in attack. Ole Romeny's injury is reported to be worse than first thought, and he is likely to miss the FIFA Matchday November 2026 window. That leaves John Herdman searching for a replacement up front.

There is better news in defence. Jay Idzes is back in the Sassuolo squad after featuring against Lazio, which reopens the door for a call-up from Herdman.

Herdman's First Test Since the ASEAN Cup Title

This window is John Herdman's first test since leading Indonesia to the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 title on penalties against Thailand in early October. Herdman could also gain a new option if the Taisei Marukawa naturalisation is completed in time.
